Profile
A Lancashire-based artist, I love to paint richly coloured, flowing real and imagined land and waterscapes often from a ‘birds eye’ view. I have been a keen outdoor swimmer for many years and my artwork is influenced by my own experiences of water - exploring the colours and contrasts of its differing depths and states and its relationship with the texture of the shoreline.
I like to use materials that flow, such as ink, watercolour and acrylics along with wax to add texture and depth.
In the same way that water is changed and influenced by myriad forces, I love that in their fluid state, these materials develop a life of their own as they react to each other and to different surfaces, mediums, brushes, even the weather.
My work uses perceptions and experiences of the light, colour and movement of rivers, lakes and seas to convey the emotions and narrative of water and the landscapes in which it sits.
